Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of polygamy on women's self-identity from a feminist psychology perspective. The research method used is qualitative with a literature review approach, which involves analysis of various academic sources such as journals, books, and relevant previous studies. The results of the study show that polygamy has a significant impact on women's psychological and social aspects, especially in the formation of self-identity, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. The practice of polygamy often causes identity crises, feelings of inferiority, and relational imbalances due to the dominance of patriarchy in the social structure. From an Islamic law perspective, polygamy is permitted on the condition of fairness, but in practice, it is difficult to achieve perfect fairness. Through a feminist psychology approach, fairness is understood comprehensively, encompassing emotional, social, and spiritual fairness. Therefore, the synthesis between Islamic law and feminist psychology affirms that the ideal marriage practice is one that can bring justice and welfare to women. If polygamy causes suffering and injustice, then its restriction or even rejection is in line with the values of justice and benefit in Islam.
